Basic Foods in My Culture

I don' t remember any food or dish that identifies my country. Mexicans have their burritos and tacos. Or there are the "pupusas"from El Salvador. But in my country when it's time to eat we usually ask for a "casado". A "casado" consist of a combination like rice, beans, salad and some kind of meat such as pork, chicken or fish. One very popular dish in my countryis a breakfast dish called "gallo pinto". It is a mix of rice and beans and eggs. There is the "olla de carne" too, just as popular as the "gallo pinto". It is a soup with pieces of meat and some vegetables. If you want you can add some rice to it.Finally as i said before we don't have a particular dish, but there are some popular ones that usually become the main course of a party or ceremony.

If I want to tell people about the main drink in my country, I can say the same as for the food. But I could say that one of the main drinks would be coffee because I don't know anyone that doesn't like coffee. Also there is a hot drink called "agua dulce". It's water mixed whit some kind of sugar. It's almost a tea that not everyone likes, but it is kind of popular. In conclusion we have added some drinks and foods from other cultures but we have ours , too.

The Fourth of July: United States's Birthday

This is my first celebration of the fourth of July . I expect to see a lot of fireworks, people dressing white, red and blue clothes and hanging little American flags. Well I expect to see a whole celebration. About the meal I think that many families and friends are going to have a cookout, but not like any other, this will be a big one, I hope.
Finally I'm going to be happy for the American people because of their country's birthday and I gave them congratulations for it. I will try to have fun and celebrate with the Americans this most important holiday

How do people mourn?

It depends on your culture. Some wear a distinctive color, like black in the west and white in the east. Some fast. Some hire music and mourners to cry. Some people cry. Some abstain from amusements for month or a year. Some people visit the grave.

What's new and in the news?

Celebrities Michael Jackson and Ferra Faucett died. Michael Jackson died of an overdose of pain-killer. Ferra Faucett died of colon cancer. Michael Jackson was fifty years old. Ferra Faucett was in her early sixties. Michael Jackson was well-known for his singing and especially for his dancing( the moon walk) and Ferra Faucett, for her acting in Charlie's Angels and other shows.
Both were excellent artists who made history and they will be known for many years as a great artist and good persons, too.

Why do you think some cultures try to force children to be right handed? Do you think it's a good idea?

I think some cultures try to force their children to be right handed because maybe they think being right handed means being stronger. Or maybe they say that if you were right handed, you would be able to survive and live a long time. So maybe that's could be why they force their children.
I respect their belief , but i don't think it is a good idea to force someone to be something that he or she is not.

why did i decide to como to summer school?

I'm coming to summer school because i want to practice more English and learn how to speak it very well, as soon as possible, because i came to the United States 3 month ago to learn English and i have to come back in October so i have to take advantage of all that could help me in it and don't waste my time . Also it's an opportunity to see some friends and why not to know new ones. I don't have anything else to do. So that's why i decided to come to summer school.
